Growing Portfolio Challenges and How Investory Helped Solve Them

HOWZAT is a Luxembourg-based early-stage venture capital fund that primarily invests into travel / transport, foodtech, edtech, proptech and marketplaces. Although globally focused, most investments are based in Europe. Over the past 16 years the fund has done investments in over 80 companies through three funds, with close to 60 still active in the portfolio. Overall, with follow-on investments, HOWZAT has done close to 500 transactions (initial investments and follow-ons).

The Challenge

The General Partners of the fund needed a better way to track and report transactions and performance. With a growing portfolio the fund started to have challenges with tracking and sharing investment information with its LPs and potential LP’s. Traditionally Excel reporting was sufficient to provide insights into the start-ups but with a growing number of companies, it became cumbersome to create and then also to read those reports. As lists became longer, graphical display was missing to provide better overviews. “We knew we had to consolidate a lot of different information in a place where we could structure, streamline and consolidate performance and ownership information”, says Sascha, one of the GP managers and a board member at Investory.
